7. Green Team Field Trips

7.1 Purpose of Field Trips: Like monthly Green Team programs, Green Team field trips aim to educate residents about our South Sound bioregion (its natural and cultural history), about environmental issues facing this region, and about sustainability issues and practices applicable both to individual residents and the Panorama organization and its operations. We want to deepen residents’ awe and wonder about the living world around them and to motivate them toward sustainable values and practices where they live and play.

7.2 Future Field Trips List: The document GT-Programs and Field Trip Suggestions serves as a list of ideas to both the Green Team  program leaders and for the Steering Committee’s review and suggestions.

7.3 Examples of Field Trips: The following are examples of past field trips offered by the Green Team.

7.4 Planning for a Field Trip: See the important document from Panorama’s LED Services, Lifestyle Enrichment Trips vs. Private Trips.  This document indicates that in order for the Lifestyle Enrichment Department to support both registration and transportation to a field trip site, the Lifestyle Enrichment Department needs to “decide” the trip location and make the arrangements for transportation.  Otherwise, the field trip is considered a “private trip” in which we, the Panorama Green Team makes the arrangements, requests a “private bus,” and handles all the registration ourselves.

Therefore, if we want the Lifestyle Enrichment staff to handle the field trip publicity and registration, we need to suggest the field trip months in advance and gain their agreement to sponsor it – or not.

7.5 Payment to Field Trip Leaders or to Sites:  When a field trip site (such as Bergford Gardens or a museum) requests a donation or an admission fee, that is communicated to the registrants to purchase tickets in advance or pay the admission fee or donation “at the door.”  Expert leaders are sometimes compensated for their services.  But generally, most of our field trip leaders or coordinators have been Panorama residents donating their experience and time.

7.6 Program Publicity: Field Trips are publicized the same way that Green Team programs are publicized:

  • A description of the field trip and its leaders is presented on the Green Team page in Panorama News
  • Announcements of the field trip and reminders are sent to the Green Team “members” via email messages.
  • Information is sent to Kya and Panorama TV’s Readerboard
  • Information is also sent to Panorama TV’s NEWS Show

7.7 Reminders for the Green Team Field Trip Leader:

  • Be sure that publicity describes the level of challenge of a walk so residents can make an informed decision about their ability to handle the excursion.
  • Be sure that publicity or confirming information provides specifics about departure and return times, about appropriate clothing and shoes, and other items to bring (e.g., hat, sunscreen, snacks, water bottle, etc.)
