SCOTCH BROOM CLEANUP DAY – A SUCCESS

Broom Busters – Busting the Scotch Broom

If you have walked around the storm ponds off 26th loop, you may have noticed there is a lot of Scotch Broom which has sprouted up. On Thursday, Feb. 2, a group of about 14 hardy Green Team volunteers showed up to battle this scourge. We were trained by a Lacey employee, given gloves and some tools which we may keep (for the next cleanup), and then we got to work using weed wrenches to wrest the plants from the ground. In about an hour and a half we removed all the broom from around the western pond.

Next…the biggest pond. If you would like to help us for the biggest pond cleanup or for future cleanups, please contact Sally Vogel.
