Composting Garbage at the Recycle Center

JULY 2014 ARTICLE

We hope more people will take advantage of this service as using the garbage disposal for food waste (yes, we know that is what it was designed for, but…) is no longer a good practice. As we mentioned earlier, it overloads our local wastewater treatment center and wastes precious clean water.

So what to do? Bring it to the Recycle Center and put it into the special container for Food Waste. Although it is preferable to have it in a BioBag or a brown paper sack (NO plastic bags, please!), it is not necessary. Just dump your naked garbage into the large food waste container. The smaller green one is there ONLY for the people who cannot lift their contribution into the large one. The large container is emptied every Tuesday.

November 2014 update: The list of items that can be put into the food waste bin has been expanded, and the smaller green container has been removed. See the Recycling page for up-to-date information on all recycling topics.
