3.1 Formation and early years
In 2007 Sally Vogel formed the Green Team, which started as a discussion group dealing with environmental issues. Sally enlisted the help of Don Melnick who served as facilitator for the meetings. Don was later a co-chair and was the primary writer of a white paper on toxic pesticides, presented to management.
The Green Team sponsored speakers on various topics related to environmentsl issues.
3.2 Establishing Recycling Centers
Jim Silver worked with other Green Team members to establish the first recycling center, now named the Silver Recycling Center in 20??. *** Sally, do you know this date? ***
In 20?? a second recycling center was set up near the Chinook .
3.3 Expansion of Leadership Team
In 2015 Sally set up a Leadership Team including the existing officers – co-chairs, secretary, treasurer, and recycling coordinator, in addition to six new members. This group, with the addition of more new members, has continued to meet and plan presentations, field trips and other events. It is now known as the Green Team Steering Committee.
3.4 Interaction with Panorama Management
The Green Team has encouraged Panorama Management to exercise sustainable practices, and has taken Management representatives and Panorama Residents on field trips to the Bullitt Center (known as the greenest commercial building in the world), encouraging environmentally sound practices such as installing solar panels, providing EV charging stations using heat pumps and planting more native and drought-resistant plants.
3.5 Continuing Programs and Services
The Green Team continues to provide programs, films and field trips open to all Panorama residents. They also provide services including maintaining and monitoring of the Recycling Center and the Pollinator Garden.
